A Workshop was held during December 14-15, 2001 on the determinants of maternal mortality in Andhra Pradesh. The main objectives of eth workshops were to bring together researchers, activists and policy makers on the issue of maternal mortality and find out a possible networking. Secondly this workshop was also expected to provide a background for the maternal mortality research study by formulating the central analytical idea as well as identifying the suitable methods for empirical testing of the hypotheses.

There were around 30 participants including representative from the government. There had been intensive discussion on several issues related to maternal mortality. Studies on maternal mortality conducted in other parts of the country had been presented by the respective authors. The NGOs and Government representatives shared their respective views and experience with regard to maternal health.
