This
study looks at maternal health and its determinants in different
regions of Andhra Pradesh, India using available secondary sources
of data. Different Indicators to represent maternal health and
socio-economic status of the mother have been estimated. Finally a
mother’s index is calculated using different indicators. The
mother’s index brought out the existing regional heterogeneity
in the state. However, the study could not conclusively determine
on the factors determining maternal health across different
regions of the state. Both socio-economic status and health
availability turned out to be uncorrelated with maternal health
outcomes.
The study also brought out the major issues on maternal
health in the state and the existing data gap. |
