Endowed with its academic expertise and experience, CESS has been conducting M.Phil./Ph.D. Programme in Development Studies in the specific areas of Economics, Commerce, Development Statistics, Political Science & Public Administration, Sociology and Geography. This Programme is being conducted in collaboration with Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad. The Centre is also recognised as an institute for advanced research in social sciences by the University of Hyderabad and Osmania University. It is a part-time Programme that enables the faculty of colleges, research organisations, NGOs etc., to undertake research in areas of their interest without having to take long leave from their regular jobs. The policy guidance to this Programme is framed by a Research Programme Committee (RPC) comprising subject experts from several academic institutes in Hyderabad.

Admissions to M.Phil are based on a written entrance test and oral interview. Candidates with an M.Phil Degree or with 60 per cent or more marks in M.Phil Part-I (course work) or who have published at least two research articles in standard academic journals are eligible for direct admission to Ph.D. The final selections will be done based on the recommendations of the Selection Committee and subject to the approval of the RPC.

Our M.Phil Programme started in 1986. Subsequently Ph.D Programme started in 1991. Till October 2010, 61 candidates have been awarded Ph.D Degrees and M.Phil Degrees have been awarded to 86 candidates. Currently there are 83 Ph.D students and 72 M.Phil students on rolls.

Advertisement for fresh batch of admissions is normally released in December/January every year.
